What is NEET?
NEET or the Nationality Eligibility cum Entrance Test is an examination conceived by the medical council of India. It is conducted under the aegis of the NTA as a single level entrance test for UG (undergraduate) and PG (Post Graduate) medical (MBBS, MD, MS), dental (BDS, MDS) and AYUSH courses in both government and private medical and dental colleges in India. Formerly conceived in the year 2013 as the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT), it was developed and administered by the CBSE or central Board of Secondary Education till 2018. NEET 2019 has now been taken over by the NTA or National Testing Agency who will be conducting the examination scheduled on 5th May 2019.
NEET caters to over 13 lakh aspirants in UG and 1.5 lakh aspirants in PG medical and dental seats in colleges established by the Central Government, State Government, University, Deemed University, Trust, Society, Company, Minority Institutions or Corporation. However institutes of National importance like the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) do not fall under the purview of NEET and conduct their own admission process under separate laws.
